Case Study: IDEX Corporation
Industry: Diversified Machinery – Fluid Handling Technologies
Business Description: IDEX Corporation is an applied solutions company that specializes in mechanical applications for fluidic manufacturing. A global conglomerate, IDEX focuses on four specialized market verticals; fluid & metering technologies, health & science, dispensing, and fire & safety. IDEX is best known for expertise in highly engineered fluidics systems and components, as well as fire and safety products including the Jaws of Life® family of rescue and recovery tools. Based out of Northbrook, IL, IDEX has 5,200 employees and operates on six continents.
The Challenge:
IDEX has over 50 different manufacturing operations that drive their core businesses within four market verticals. IDEX has had tremendous growth by acquisition, typically bringing on 4-5 new companies a year. While each newly acquired company contained its own Human Resource function, they didn’t have a centralized recruiting function to find highly specialized talent for the different business units. Without a standardized recruiting process or technology to leverage best practice hiring, IDEX did not have the means to track recruitment metrics and costs across the company. Instead of incurring the cost, in both time and money, to build out an internal recruiting function, IDEX was looking for a scaleable RPO solution to add efficiencies to the current recruiting practice and keep organizational costs low.
The Accolo Solution:
At the end of 2006, IDEX engaged Accolo to provide a consistent recruiting best practices solution and methodology. With the support of Accolo’s centralized recruiting team, patented technology and proprietary career network, IDEX successfully completed a pilot program in early 2007. In April 2007, Accolo placed a Hiring Consultant onsite at IDEX’s Illinois headquarters and employed a Director of Client Services to serve as the strategic resource for the partnership. With Accolo acting as a centralized recruiting function, IDEX was able to capitalize on Accolo’s economies of scale to reduce recruiting costs across its portfolio of companies and apply accountability metrics to the various business units. Through Accolo’s best practices methodology, IDEX has seen marked improvement in hiring metrics and continues to expand its partnership with Accolo.
Results:
For 2007, IDEX Corporation had a savings of $174,063 over the national recruiting cost average*.
Days-to-start, the time from job launch to candidate start date, dropped from 96 days in Q1 and Q2 to 78.6 in Q3, a reduction of 18.1%.
Hiring Manager satisfaction with the overall Accolo process increased from 3.33 on a scale of 5 in Q2 to 3.86 in Q3, a 16% increase in a single quarter.
