Business Description: Tutor.com is one of the internet’s first online tutoring forums, connecting students and professional tutors in real-time sessions. Based in New York, Tutor.com allows students to get on-demand help with their education through the use of instant messaging, interactive white boards and file sharing. Everyday thousands of students connect to the largest network of professional tutors throughout the US and Canada using Tutor.com’s online application. Formed in 1998, Tutor.com began as a small group of passionate education and technology professionals led by George Cigale, Founder and CEO. In 2007, Tutor.com was voted Best Small Company for Women by Working Mother Magazine and was ranked 6th in the New York region on Deloitte’s Fast 50 program.
The Challenge:
Tutor.com has a very lean Human Resource organization which primarily focuses on employee relations, benefits and generalist activities. With a mission to increase sales and client services hiring, the current HR function was unable to support the additional workload of managing recruiting activities as well. The employee population and organizational hiring needs did not warrant adding the additional overhead of building out an internal recruiting function. With critical revenue-generating hires needed, as well as vacancies in graphic design, marketing, IT and partnership development, Tutor.com needed to find a resource to address the impending recruiting issues.
